Once upon a time there was a sweety little doll with big and deep eyes, thick eyebrows, a slight smile and a head too big than her body: the Blythe Doll, created by the pencil of the toy designer Allison Katzman, which was inspired by Margaret Keane’s drawings. We are exactly in 1972.
Its peculiarities were exactly the color-changing eyes, which, thanks to a string placed under the neck, went from green to orange, from blue to purple. Not all fairy tales, however, immediately see a happy ending. So, after less than a year, Blythe dolls were removed from sales. The motivation for this flop? Disturbed adults and scared children. So, the sweet little doll ended up in the garret for over thirty years. But one day, in 1997, to the American photographer Gina Garan was given a Blythe, which became a muse for her photos, exhibitions, and even the protagonist of her photography book “This Is Blythe”. So the Blythe bought the popularity they had never had, back in production and be recognized as the most famous fashion doll in the world.
